Meet Hans, an 8-month-old male Bare-Eyed Cockatoo listed at Higgins Grey Parrots. His mostly white plumage, soft pink facial colouring, and exposed eye area give this bird a distinctive appearance. If you are considering Hans, start with his individual routine and handling experience so you can prepare a suitable home.

Bare-Eyed Cockatoo: individual details

Hans is listed as DNA sexed, hand fed, weaned, hand raised, tamed, and vaccinated. Request his DNA-sexing report and vaccination details, including dates, before reserving. Hand feeding describes his rearing history; ask which foods he currently eats independently and how his routine should continue after collection.

Preparing your home

Ask for a recent video of Hans stepping onto a hand or perch, eating, and spending time in his enclosure. This helps you understand his current confidence rather than relying on a label alone. Plan introductions at his pace and ask which cues and rewards are already familiar to him.

Plan predictable attention, safe chewing materials, foraging opportunities, and supervised activity. Cockatoos can be loud and need substantial daily engagement. Review VCA’s cockatoo care guidance when assessing your household’s suitability.

Feeding and daily routine

Discuss a balanced diet with an avian veterinarian; seeds alone are inadequate. Provide fresh water and clean bowls daily. Read VCA’s cockatoo feeding guide and our parrot cage and food checklist.
